Dog Walking

From the largest breeds to the tiniest, your dog can reap the countless benefits of taking a walk...

Dogs are active and social creatures by nature. By establishing a daily dog walking routine, you give your dog the chance to channel this energy in a very positive way. Active dogs are generally happy, well-adjusted dogs. Many times, just simply showing a dog his leash will send him into a frenzy of excitement. And, trying to contain that enthusiasm is next to impossible.

There are many physical benefits for your dog. Obviously, walking is a great form of exercise that improves blood flow to the heart and oxygen to the lungs, builds strong muscles, increases joint mobility, increases energy levels and helps control weight. The list goes on and on…

But, dog walking also has many emotional benefits that are often overlooked. It provides mental stimulation, social interaction, and positive reinforcement. It can also build self-confidence, decrease behavioral issues and improve a dog’s mood.

Dogs are pack animals. Therefore, they instinctually need to be with others; be it dogs or humans. A daily dog walking routine provides them with personal attention and social interaction to help satisfy this “pack need.” It’s also a great way to reinforce training so that their skills remain sharp.

You may not realize it, but teaching and reinforcing obedient commands like “sit,” “stay,” “heel” and “come” can actually help to build a dog’s self confidence and also reduce stress. By reinforcing the training during the walk, you’ve added more personal attention and mental stimulation that will help your dog adapt better in a social environment.

With all things considered, it’s clearly apparent that a regular dog walking program can improve the overall well being of your dog. So allow me to put your pup on a leash, and let them explore the great outdoors … nose to the ground, eyes wandering; alert to all the sights, sounds and smells of the neighborhood!
