My life is likely to last 10-20 years, so please
prepare for my care.
Separation from you is likely to be painful, for you are my
pack leader and my survival depends on you.
If you do have to leave me,
please leave me in the care of someone you trust.
Remember that I am an animal
and I have instinctual and pack driven needs, so from time to time my needs will differ from yours.
Just because you don't want to go for a walk today, doesn't mean that I don't.
Give me time to understand what you want of me, because I want to please you.
Place your trust in me, it is crucial for my well-being.
Don't be angry
with me for long and don't lock me up a punishment. You have your work, friends and entertianment...but I only have
you.
Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand
the tone of your voice when speaking to me.
Be aware that however you treat me,
I will never forget you or the treatment.
Before you strike me, remember that
I have placed my trust in you and once that trust is broken, it will be hard to rebuild.
Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps
I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
Please take care of me when I grow old, for you too, will grow old.
On
the ultimate journey, please go with me so I don't have to face it alone.
Everything
is easier for me if you are there with me, because you are my friend, my family and my pack leader.
-Our
animals give us their best every day, so I believe we owe it to them to do
the same.
